FEEDING TUBES (ENTERAL NUTRITION)

NASOGASTRIC (NG) TUBE

An NG tube is placed through the nose and guided down into the stomach to drain accumulated fluids, gas, and stomach contents.

NASOJEJUNAL (NJ) TUBE

An NJ tube is a feeding tube placed through the nose and guided down into the jejunum, a portion of the small intestines. This is done to bypass the compression point.

GASTROJEJUNOSTOMY (GJ) TUBE

A GJ tube is placed through the abdominal wall into the stomach, with an extension that continues into the jejunum.

JEJUNOSTOMY (J) TUBE

A J tube is placed surgically through the skin directly into the intestines, specifically the jejunum. This allows nutrition to bypass the compression point.

PARENTERAL NUTRITION

TOTAL PARENTERAL NUTRITION (TPN)

TPN provides complete nutrition directly into the bloodstream through an IV line. It is a method thast completely bypasses the gastrointestinal tract.

Requires specialized monitoring and care.
